Welcome to "Paving the Way" at Jackson United Methodist Church |
A Letter to the Leadership of JUMC
|
April 10, 2008 Dear JUMC Friends, As our capital stewardship campaign, "Paving the Way", builds toward its dramatic conclusion, the time for decision approaches for each of us. In all important issues of life, there comes a time to move from deliberation to decision, from consideration to commitment. We believe Jackson United Methodist Church stands on the threshold of a resounding spiritual and financial victory that will proclaim our love for Christ and our commitment to do God's will regardless of cost. Our congregation is being challenged to commit itself to a new level of faith, service, and love. Before we ask our congregation to respond, we are requesting commitments from leaders and ministry "difference makers" in what we are calling the Leadership Campaign phase of our capital stewardship endeavor. The Biblical pattern for this is found in I Chronicles 29. In the great capital campaign to build the temple in Jerusalem, King David challenged himself and his leaders to set a high standard as an encouragement to the children of Israel. According to I Chronicles 29:6, "Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly." The response of the leaders had an impact on the people of Israel as recorded in I Chronicles 29:9, "The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. David the King also rejoiced greatly." The amount committed through the Leadership Campaign phase will be an encouragement to the rest of the congregation, and will determine the magnitude of the financial victory. We are asking you to participate in two important events: 1. Attend one of two meetings at the home of Alan and Lynda White. The purpose of the meetings is to communicate "up close and personal" the vision of ministry and how the capital stewardship campaign is tied directly to it. These meetings will be informational and inspirational in nature and will last about 75 minutes. We will have light food appropriate to the time of day the meeting is held. You will not be asked to make a financial commitment at these meetings. The date is Sunday, April 27, 2008 and the times are 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.. You may choose the one you would like to attend. 2. A Leadership Campaign Dinner. The purpose of the dinner is to bring together all of the Leadership Campaign participants for the crescendo of this phase of the capital stewardship effort. At this event, we will have fellowship, food, a brief program and a time of commitment to conclude the evening. We will total the commitments that are received from the leadership and make an announcement to the congregation in the worship services on Sunday, May 4, 2008. The date and time of the Leadership Campaign Dinner is as follows: Date: Saturday, May 3, 2008 Time: 6:00 PM Location: JUMC Fellowship Hall These commitments, when totaled, will establish a standard of sacrificial giving that will encourage and inspire the congregation. The announcement of the totaled commitments of our church's leadership will inspire our members with the most powerful influence of all -- personal example. The rest of the congregation will be invited to make their commitments at the conclusion of the special service on Sunday, May 18, 2008. If you would like to participate in these activities, please RSVP to Larry and Lora Morgan at Jackson United Methodist Church, 409 East Third Street, P.O. Box 1880, Jackson, GA 30233 by Tuesday, April 22, 2007. We hope you will choose to be a part of this exciting phase of our campaign. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Larry and Lora Morgan | Johnny and Elizabeth Carter
